* VO stands for Volume Oscillator, which is calculated as the difference between fast and slow moving averages. PVO is a percentage representation of the Volume Oscillator. MVO defines the strength of volume surges if they are discovered during the price move. ** Volume surges are leading indicators. As a rule, strong volume surges during the price decline (bearish volume surges) indicate heavy panic selling and may lead to an oversold condition and reversal upward. Conversely, a high volume during the price advance (bullish volume surge) indicates heavy greedy buying, which may lead to an overbought condition and a reversal downward.. About Volume based Technical Analysis.
S&P 500 Index (^SPX) volume based technical analysis is one of the important factors in
obtaining a complete picture of the S&P 500 sentiment. There is no price
movement without volume and there is no volume without price movement. The
S&P 500 trend is always described by the change in the price and by
the trading volume during this price change. By using only price-based
technical indicators, a trader risks seeing only half of the picture and
making uninformed trading decisions.
There are two main ways to analyze S&P 500 volume: analysis of volume surges
(analysis of abnormal volume activity) and analysis of the
money flow (how
much money came out of or went into the market/stock).
Some of the best tools to analyze S&P 500 volume surges are Volume
Oscillator (VO),
Percentage Volume Oscillator (PVO)
and MarketVolume Oscillator (MVO)
To analyze money flow, one could use the Money Flow Index (MFI), as well as
the SBV Oscillator (not shown in the quotes tables above, but available in
our charts).
Volume-based technical analysis can deliver profitable signals and help in
trading indexes, their derivatives, options on indexes and their
derivatives, emini, index tracking funds and any other trading vehicles
that track an index's performance. Use the following resources below for
