The NASDAQ Biotechnology Index (^NBI) includes consist of publicly traded on the NASDAQ Stock Exchange companies from the Biotechnology and Pharmaceuticals sectors which meet other eligibility criteria.

As of September 2008 about 150 biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies are listed in the the NASDAQ Biotechnology index. Such companies as United Therapeutics Corporation (UHTR), Genzyme Corporation (GENZ), Cephalon, Inc. (CEPH), Techne Corporation (TECH) are some of the biggest companies from the index basket.
